We are pleased to announce two more winners of our Photo Story competition – really wonderful stories of being a woman in sport:
Claudia Lepera Bloy (@claudialepera) – Ultimate Frisbee Champion
The joy of playing a mixed gender sport as a woman (teams have both men and women in them) is pushing you body beyond your norm. The CHALLENGE is that physically, you may come off second best. I am a wife, mom, business owner, athlete and woman. This photo shows the confidence developed in my body playing Frisbee that I can now lay out for the disk. Unfortunately what follows is the challenge of not having quite as much testosterone as needed to take the hit. Challenge and joy all in one.
The JOY of having given all you have and feeling completely spent. Laughing at ourselves for the crazy things we do on the field for our teammates, and PROUD of the wounds we have picked up along the way
Megan Lavender (megsmoo_lav) – KZN softball
Stepping up to the plate takes a lot of COURAGE. Especially when facing the fastest pitcher in your age group! It can be CHALLENGING to hit homeruns (it always seems easier for guys), but I PROUDLY represent my team and try to hit as many homeruns as I can. I remind myself that I love playing softball and this pushes me to be my best every game and frame of the season.
